"Yeah yeah yeah!!! Yet another study telling us that violent video games are bad. Tell us something we don't know," I hear you guys saying, and you know what? I too feel the same way.

GameSpot has an article that states that a new study confirmed that violent video games lead to physical aggression in people between the ages 9 and 19. Tell us something we don't know. I mean, really, we've read and heard stuff like this since the early days of action gaming. Games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter have received bad press as a result of the violence depicted in them, the former being the more vilified.
The thing is, violent games have a negative effect on some people, not only kids and very young adults. We cannot, and must not, deny that. However, on other people, it has a negligible to no negative effect. I for one have been a player of "violent games" such as Mortal Kombat and various first person shooters, and people would say I am as non-violent as they come.
Probably until I am attacked, and this brings me to the positive side of playing such "violent games." We have to ask this question: Does playing violent games prime a person to be able to adequately or appropriately respond to a serious threat to their health and well-being or to the health and well-being loved-ones? Now this is the side of the debate we never get to hear!!!
