What would drive a woman to take not just her own life, but those of her three-year-old daughter and four-year-old son? 

For some people, women included, the loss of a job is enough to send them over the edge and compel them to do commit such a heinous crime. 

For others - and this one is quite common - the break-up of a relationship with a spouse or partner is enough to cause them to not just take their own life, but the lives of their children who also happen to be the children of their partner. 

For yet others, the loss of a spouse or partner, not as a result of being jilted, but to death, is enough to make them do a deed so macabre. A Chinese woman recently joined this class of suicide/filicide committers.

Mrs He drowned herself, her three-year-old daughter and four-year-old son in the wake of her husband allegedly faking his death in a bid to secure an insurance payout. 

It was assumed that Mr He who was 1,000,000 yuan in debt (£110,000) was dead, on finding a car he had borrowed in a river, but he surrendered to the Xinhua County police who detained him on charges of intentional property damage and insurance fraud last Friday. 

Being in the dark concerning the alleged plan, an apparently grief-stricken Mrs He took her life and those of her two little children, according to The China Daily. Allegedly, she had been named as the insurance plan's beneficiary by Mr He.

The bodies of Mrs He and her children were found on October 11, twenty-two days after Mr He faked his demise.

Over the past week, this incident has been the subject of Chinese social media debate and conversations bordering on familial issues and financial pressures, the BBC reports.
